Night Sky – Lunar Eclipse

 

 

On 28 October 2004, the Ascension Island Post issued a series of stamps depicting natural event, a lunar eclipse, including the First Day Cover. On the first day cover stamps affixed to the stamp series and also described seabirds flying over the globe. The Cancellation Postmark  feature  earth is undergoing eclipse with  purple ink.

 

 

 

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow falls on the Moon. Since the plane of the moon's orbit is inclined about 5°: from the plane of the Earth's orbit, lunar eclipses are relatively infrequent. There are about two lunar eclipses each year (visible somewhere on Earth).

Types of Lunar Eclipses are  total eclipse, and partial eclipse. Total Eclipse - When the entire moon enters the Earth's umbra (the darkest part of its shadow). Meanwhile Partial Eclipse - When only part of the moon enters the Earth's umbra.

SPORT FISHING TUNA FISH

Recreational fishing for sport or leisure gained popularity during the 16th and 17th centuries, and coincides with the publication of Izaak Walton's The Compleat Angler, or Contemplative Man's Recreation in 1653. This book is the definitive work that champions the position of the angler who loves fishing for the sake of fishing.

Most recreational fishers use a fishing rod with a fishing line and a hook at the end of the line. The rod may be equipped with a reel so the line can be reeled in, and some form of bait or a lure attached to the hook. Fly fishing is a special form of rod fishing in which the reel is attached to the back end of the rod, and heavy line is cast with a complex, repetitive whipping motion to deliver the ultra-light artificial fly to its target.

On July 22, 2005,  Postal Administration of Ascension Island issued stamp series feature sport fishing tuna include First Day Cover. The Tuna species presented on stamps are Yellowfin Tuna, Black Tuna, Albacore Tuna and Bigeye Tuna. The Cancellation of Postmark figured a yellowfin tuna in black colored ink.

The 4th APR Scout Leaders Summit –2003

The 4th APR Scout Leaders Summit is a high-level summit meeting of the leaders of the Asia-Pacific scouting the fourth time which held at Cibubur, Jakarta on 12 – 14 October 2003.

Previously been held in  Philippines (1994), Japan  (1997), and Australia (2001).This event has attended by leaders from 23 organizations scouting in Asia Pacific to discuss the development of scouting in the region.

The Post Indonesia released a special FDC to commemorate this event on October 12, 2003. Design of FDC feature a picture of one scout goes to scout camp and  presented logo of the summit. The stamp affixed on this FDC features Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and Lord Baden Powell.

Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX was acclaimed as Chief of Scout of Indonesia, meanwhile Lord Baden Powell was acclaimed as Chief Scout of the World. The Cancellation postmark same as logo of the summit, black colored.

The Great Wall Sheetlet- Hong Kong World Heritage in China Series No.1

 

 

Hong Kong Post unveils the World Heritage in China Series featuring stamp sheetlets showcasing the natural and cultural gems of our motherland. The stamp sheetlet series no. 1 presented the Great Wall. The stamp  includes the First Day Cover issued on September 27, 2012. The stamp sheetlet was designed by LI Shik-kwong, Ken

The Great Wall is the world's largest military structure as well as one of the greatest ancient defensive projects.  The Great Wall demonstrates the indomitable perseverance and high wisdom of the ancient Chinese, unparalleled technological advances in ancient China and the long history of the Chinese nation.

The construction of the Great Wall dates back to around 220 BC when, under the reign of Qin Shihuang,  stretching over 6700 kilometres in total, comprises not only solid defensive walls but also other features such as passes favorable for defense, watchtowers used for food and weapon storage, and beacon towers used for passing military messages.

Sport Fishing Jacks

Sport fishing is fishing for pleasure or competition.The most common form of recreational fishing is done with a rod, reel, line, hooks and any one of a wide range of baits. The most common salt water game fish are marlin, tuna, tarpon, sailfish, shark, and mackerel.

In order to protect recreational fisheries sport fishermen now often catch and release, and sometimes tag and release, which involves fitting the fish with identity tags, recording vital statistics, and sending a record to a government agency.

The Postal Administrative of Ascension Island has issued a stamp series consist of four single stamps feature sport fishing jacks, Black Jack (Caranx lugubris), Almaco jack (Seriola rivoliana), Horse-eye jack (Caranx latus), Rainbow runner (Elagatis bipinnulata). The First Day Cover have presented picture of three sport-fishermen and the Cancellation postmark figured a jack fish with black colour dated January 24, 2006.

SCOUT ( PRAMUKA )

The principles of Scouting describe a code of behavior for all members, and characterize the movement. The Scout method is a progressive system designed to achieve these goals, comprising seven elements: law and promise, learning by doing, team system, symbolic framework, personal progression, nature, and adult support.

The Pos Indonesia released one stamp series feature the important figure of Scouting, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and Lord Baden Powell, on August 14 2003. This issuance  is for commemorating the scouting movement in Indonesia.  The Cancellation Postmark presented the scout movement sign .

In 1909, Scouting developing in Chile, United States, Ghana, India and the rest world of the world thereafter. In the first International Jamboree in Olympia London 1920, Lord Baden Powell was acclaimed as Chief Scout of the World.

Scouting movement in Indonesia began  with the establishment of Netherlandse Padvinders Organizatie branch in 1912. The first national scout organization in Indonesia was Javaanse Padvinders Organisatie inspired by Mangkunegara VII in 1916. Scout movement unified  in one organization as PRAMUKA ( Praja Muda Karana) by Presidential Decree 1961 . Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX was acclaimed as the Chief of Scout in Indonesia in 1961.

ESPANA 2002 WORLD YOUTH EXHIBITION - SALAMANCA

ESPANA 2002, The World Youth Exhibition has held at Salamanca city, central Spain, capital of Salamanca Province. To commemorate this event, PT. Pos Indonesia released special one souvenir sheet feature Banteng Jawa (Bos javanicus) and background image of Spain Matador on November 12, 2003. Logo of Espana 2002, also printed in the souvenir sheet.

Design of FDC presented Salamanca Cathedral  (Spain) and St. Peter Cathedral Bandung (Indonesia). Logo’s of Espana 2002 adopted as design of the Cancellation Post mark with black colour.

The wild Banteng ( Bos Javanicus)  is considered as Endangered by the IUCN. The populations on the Asian mainland have decreased by about 80% in the last decades. The total number of wild bantengs is estimated to about 5,000-8,000 animals. No population has more than 500 animals, only a few have more than 50. Reasons for the population decline are reduction of habitat, hunting, hybridization with domestic cattle and infections with cattle diseases. The most important stronghold for the species is Java with the biggest populations in Ujung Kulon National Park and Baluran National Park.
